Prof. Dr. Roman Boutellier

Prof. Dr. Roman Boutellier was appointed Full Professor for Innovation and Technology Management at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich on 2004. Since 2005 he also chairs the Master of Advanced Studies in Management, Technology, and Economics. In 1999 he was nominated as Adjunct Professor for Technology Management at the University of St. Gallen.

Prof. Dr. Roman Boutellier was conferred a doctorate in 1979 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in mathematics. Postdoctoral, he spent a year at the ImperialCollege in London to do research in function theory.

 From 1999 until his nomination at the ETH he was President and Chief Executive Officer of SIG Holding Ltd.. Under his Management the € 2 billion group developed from a diversified conglomerate to a globally active group with focus on liquid packaging.

From 1993 until 1999 he was a Professor at the University of St. Gallen and the President of the Institute of Technology Management. From 1987 until 1993 he was the head of the technical division at Leica AG in Heerbrugg and from 1981 until 1987 of the Optical Calculation department and Optics Manufacturing at Kern in Aarau. During this time he spent a study visit at the OpticalSciencesCenter in Tucson/Arizona and, in addition, made a degree in business administration.

He is a member of various boards dealing with technology transfer, supply chain management and academic education. He is also author and co-author of 7 books and over 100 publications. Furthermore, he is a member of the board of the Schweizerische Kurse für Unternehmensführung SKU and member of boards of directors of Swiss MNCs.

Focus of his current research is innovation, technology risks and opportunities as well as purchasing.

Dr. Gunter Festel

Dr. Gunter Festel founded the advisory and investment firm FESTEL CAPITAL with head-quarters in the Swiss Cantone Zug in 2003. His company specializes in the commercialisa-tion of technologies in the areas of energy, environment, health, materials as well as nutrition and invests in selected companies, preferably in early stages. One focus topic is supporting buy-outs, spin-offs and start-ups from business planning through transactions up to business optimisation.

Dr. Gunter Festel holds a PhD in chemistry, a MA in economics and BA in business administration from the University Bayreuth, a PhD in management and economics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich and a Master of Advanced Studies in Corporate Finance from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Up to the end of 2002, he was a member of the management team and head of the consulting business for the chemical and healthcare industry with Arthur D. Little in Zurich and was co-head of the global chemicals and healthcare business. Prior to that he was a consultant with McKinsey in Brussels, Frankfurt and London and with Bayer in Dormagen and Leverkusen where he held various management positions in R&D and marketing.

He has written numerous books and more than 150 publications on various topics such as corporate finance, industry restructuring, innovation management, biotechnology and polymer chemistry/physics.

He is co-founder and member of the advisory board of the Association for Chemistry & Economics as well as founding member and member of the executive council of the China Association for Management of Technology.

Dr. Berndt Samsinger

Dr. Samsinger is currently the CEO of a small pharmaceutical company and has activities in various areas of finance and investments.

Dr. Samsinger has an MBA from Keio University in Tokyo, a Ph.D. from Hochschule St. Gallen und Universitat Zurich in economics. He is a graduate of the SwissBankingSchool and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Universität Zurich.

He was Executive Director of Capital Stage AG in charge of the Private Equity and Banking business. He was Co-CEO of Capital Stage Brokerage GmbH, Frankfurt and CEO of Capital Stage (Schweiz) AG, Zurich and was in charge of Capital Stage's investment portfolio of approximately 20 high-tech investments. At Capital Stage AG, he established the first European nanotechnology fund. 

He was President of SECA, the "Swiss Private Equity & Corporate Finance Association". Prior to that Dr. Samsinger was General Manager of Midrex International, a Rotterdam based global licensing business for a major Japanese industrial conglomerate and a Managing Director of GASAM AG, a private equity and corporate finance advisory business instrumental in establishing VC companies. He was the Head of Corporate Finance at Price Waterhouse Switzerland and held management positions in the investment banking divisions of Bank Julius Baer in charge of M&A and Corporate Finance-Services, Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank as Director in charge of Corporate Finance and Commercial Banking for Continental Europe and Interallianz Bank as assistant to the CEO where he was in charge of Bank Relations, Investment Banking, Reporting and Controlling, Compliance.

Dr. Samsinger lectures at HSG (Saint Gall Business School), Schweizerische Akademie für Wirtschaftsprufung and IFZ (Institut fur Finanzdienstleistungen Zug). He is a regularly invited speaker at international conferences in the area of private equity and corporate finance. 

Professor Dr. Dirk Schiereck

Professor Dr. Dirk Schiereck is Endowed Chair of Banking and Finance at the European Business School International University Schloss Reichartshausen, Oestrich-Winkel. His research activities focus on corporate finance, banking, and asset pricing and behavioural finance.

Prof. Dr. Dirk Schiereck studied Economics at Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel. After his graduation, he became a research and teaching assistant at the Chair of Business Administration and Banking at Mannheim University, where he also completed his doctoral thesis and habilitation.

In 2000, he was appointed to Endowed Chair for Capital Markets and Corporate Governance at the Institute for Mergers & Acquisitions (IMA), Witten/Herdecke University.  In 2002, he joined the European Business School as the Endowed Chair of Banking and Finance.

He has published around 200 articles in national as well as international journals and has authored, edited and contributed to numerous books on subjects such as corporate finance and banking.  

In 2006, he was one of the founding members of the European Business School Research Group in Financial Communications. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of DIRK-Deutscher Investor Relations Verband e.V. (The German Investor Relations Association). 

Professor Dr. Max von Zedtwitz

Professor Dr. Max von Zedtwitz is President of AsiaCompete Intl Ltd., a research, training and advisory company based in Hong Kong with offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and a professor of technology management at universities in China, Europe, and the US.

Prof. Dr. Max von Zedtwitz holds Ph.D. (Business Administration) and MBA (Technology and Innovation Management) degrees from the University of St. Gallen, and a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the ETH Zurich. He was a nucleonics research scientist for ATR in Japan and a software development engineer for Siemens in the US before returning to business school. He spent three years as a project manager and subject expert at the Institute of Technology Management. He then was a visiting fellow at Harvard University for two years. During this time, he initiated the MIT European Career Fair and started an online job platform called myEuro.net.

In 2000, he joined the faculty of IMD where he focused on executive education in technology and innovation management, and he led several consulting teams as part of the MBA curriculum. In 2003, he became a professor at Tsinghua University where he founded the Research Center for Global R&D Management, with offices in Beijing and St. Gallen (Switzerland), as a platform for dozens of visiting scientists on transnational innovation, and resulting in several groundbreaking publications. In 2004, he started his second venture, AsiaCompete Intl Ltd., which is a provider of technology and innovation scouting, R&D and innovation management consulting, and management development for China-based executives and expatriates, now employing 12 people.

Besides being on the faculty of Tsinghua, he is also Visiting Professor of China Business at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, Adjunct Professor of Strategy at Rutgers Business School, New Jersey, USA, and a Research Professor at ESC Grenoble, France, teaching in MBA, EMBA, DBA and Ph.D. programs. He has published 12 books and more than 60 papers in academic and practitioner journals.

He is a member of the steering committee of the Swiss Science Consulates, the board of directors of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce, Beijing, the advisory boards of GetAbstract, a web-based book summary provider, and of Squarewise, a Dutch consulting firm.
